Dual coding is one of our favourite strategies to use within our own classrooms. We have seen the transformative improvement in vocabulary and understanding that it can facilitate.

We have also seen that often students need scaffolding or modelling in order to be able to begin to use the strategy independently. In science, there are also many instances when the learning concept is so abstract that students need a starting point.
